P.J. Charlton is a neighborhood gem that is overlooked because it's one block west of Hudson St. across from the UPS garage. The restaurant has been there for 37 years and is a survivor. The food is well prepared and well priced. Some of the wines are marked up by as much as 6 times retail, but there are some gems at only 3 times retail -- you need to be selective. Overall, it's a restaurant worth a try.

We were the only ones in the restaurant which made it nice for a special occasion with a large party. Service seemed a bit rushed. But it was great!

Phil is a great host, historian, and all around interesting guy. PJ's is a hidden gem in Hudson Square, has it all, old world charm, friendly, good food, off the beaten path but we'll worth it.

A low-stress, pleasant neighborhood Italian joint, with great decor, white tablecloths, pretty good food, decent wine. The gnocci with creamy pesto sauce was excellent. Other plusses: quiet!! you can relax and listen to your dining companion's brilliant conversation. Also, walk-ins welcome--no need to call ahead for reservations. One block from the busy restaurants on Spring St., hidden away. TacheNoir's sensitive stomach reports that they run a clean kitchen, too!

Very good service, food is brought out quickly. It's pretty quiet at lunchtime which is perfect if you want to de-stress and enjoy a relaxing meal. I do suggest some moderately priced smaller sized specials for those on a budget but want to eat at restaurant.

It was unusual to be the only couple dining there on a weeknight at 9 pm. I was told that they are more crowded during lunch hours because they are located in a commercial area. We enjoyed our meal, the service and the ambiance. If you are looking for a restaurant after or before the Smooth Cruise NYC near the pier, it's within walking distance.

My wife and I had a lovely dinner. The service was excellent and the manager made us feel at home. The holiday decorations (this was early December) were beautiful and cast the lovely, flattering light that only Christmas lights can. We have a baby, so this was a rare date night for us, and we were just looking for somewhere nice and quiet to have a nice dinner, and we absolutely found it at PJ Charlton. The only criticism I can offer is that the food was a little bland, something I had seen in other reviews before making the reservation. They were right - I definitely had to add a fair amount of salt and pepper to my pasta. But my wife had the special eggplant parm and said it was absolutely delicious, no extra seasoning needed, so maybe it was just what I had ordered (linguine with a creamy pesto and grilled chicken, as I recall) that was on the bland side. So I don't think a foodie will love this place, but parents of small children who just want a nice night out absolutely will!

Delicious food served by friendly and attentive staff. This is a favorite restaurant of mine for lunch or dinner.
