Fishing pub meets restaurant. Walrus & The Carpenter is a bustling neighborhood spot specializing in oysters and seasonal seafood. Chef Jordan Waters’ menu shifts often and focuses on what’s fresh, simple, and in season.
We pour wine, cocktails, cider, and beer, with producers we’re excited about. The room is lively and casual, with seating at the oyster bar, counter, and small tables.

If seafood isn’t your thing, we always have a few non-seafood dishes, including our steak tartare.

Opened in 2010, Walrus has been part of the Ballard community for over a decade.
We open daily at 4pm

Horrible didn’t get sat until 40 minutes after our 8:30 reservation and nobody came to grab our drink orders until 9:20. Left before ordering because it was horrible

Walrus and the Carpenter never fails to disappoint. I've been going for years and it's become a quintessential oyster house in Seattle for us. Sardines with walnuts is a must order. Looking forward to Billy's tomatoes for the summer!

Always great food. Service and pacing of the meal were horrible tonight. Not apologetic staff either, empty water glasses, asked why food was taking so long and the response was “let me check with the kitchen”. Meanwhile the table next to us who sat down after us, got the same dishes we ordered but before we did by a good 20-30 minutes. The waitress just wasn’t paying attention and I’m sure gave our food to them. She did comp a glass of wine each for “the kitchen delay”. Not what I expect from a Renee establishment. Very disappointed.

This was our second visit to Walrus & the Carpenter and it maintained its excellence. We sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed watching the meal prep. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The oysters were delicious, the profiterole dessert was decadent and we left full and happy. We will add this restaurant to our favorites list!

Amazing place and food. Only issue is it was extremely cold in the restaurant. Eventually, I realized they had the door open to the hallway which isn’t heated. I politely asked them to close the door which dramatically changed the temperature in the restaurant. And heads up it is pricey. But worth it.

Very expensive for small portions and service was not attentive. I am always happy to give a gratuity but an automatic 22% gratuity for slow service isn’t acceptable. Oysters were ok/didn’t blow me away. Restaurant also ran out of multiple dishes on the menu which is frustrating when portions are already small.

Amazing food. Tight seating space so if you're looking for an intimate setting this isn't for you. Super lively and upbeat atmosphere.
