Beautiful old building
Food was mediocre especially since only a few tables busy.
They need to work on frying better, Calamari underdone and sauce was too sweet
Ordered prime rib it was cold. We had to send back to get cooked correctly
It was served in a messy pool of juice, literally, tasted ok but wet. Was supposed to come with a side of bread and rosemary infused oil BUT they were out of bread with only two other couples.
Not coming back
I enjoyed the historic surrounds even though they were probably replicas. The area around it seems to be revitalizing.
The food was so good! Especially the pound cake with fruit!
Enjoy the food and atmosphere every time we go! Staff is so welcoming!
Our family dined at the Washington Inn for Easter 2021. The menu offered a well rounded brunch including eggs Benedict, chocolate strawberry pancakes, and other egg dishes. For those wanting lunch, some of the choices were soups, salads, burgers, and entrees featuring ham, shrimp & grits. The service was fine, and the food was well prepared and tasty. We were seated at a table within a sitting / waiting area. We actually ended up with our own private dining area, as a result. I loved the aura of history within those walls. We will definitely return.
extraordinary food in a historic setting beautiful interior with outdoor option
My boyfriend and I went to the Washington Inn & Tavern on Valentine's Day. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was amazing and a great value. I was very happy with our evening. We had a wonderful time and will be going back again.
Outstanding dinner and excellent service! Menu selection was ideal for NYE.
We always make it a point to dine at the Washington Tavern & Inn when visiting Salisbury. They never disappoint, everything is always delicious - from soup to dessert. Drinks and service are excellent . Well worth the drive and lunch is a bargain. Can't wait to get to a brunch. It is a wonderful thing the new owners have done to preserve this fine treasure of a historical building. Kudos to the chef! Well done!
could be so much better, would that they would attend to a better menu.
Took my wife to the Inn for our 52 wedding anniversary. Enjoyed the dinner very much--prime rib night. Good value. Beef well prepared and vegetables very tasty. The dessert (rum bread pudding with caramel sauce over vanilla ice cream for me, apple crisp for my wife. Small take home container for my wife's beef was provided at the table, should have been put into the container away from the table. A bag with the restaurant logo should have been used rather than a plastic bag. We plan to go back again. Our server (Nichole) was excellent, took good care of us with terrific attention--even recommended the desserts! A little soft music would have helped the atmosphere. Hope the place sustains...
We had an amazingly good dinner. I had the seared scallops with the vanilla run sauce. I wasn't sure I would like the vanilla flavor but it was tremendous. I just hope that the town of Princess Anne can support such a quality restaurant ,as I would like to come back again ,soon.
We really enjoyed our first dinner at the Washington Inn, and will definitely go back next time we're in Princess Anne. Both of our meals -- cod with a lemon/thyme sauce and fried soft shell crabs -- were excellent, as were the deserts. Wine options also were quite good. Our server, Jeff, was exceptional -- friendly, informative and attentive. Highly recommended!
I have been a cheerleader for this restaurant since it opened. Unfortunately, it seems to not have been able to keep up with the promise it demonstrated when first opening. This is the second disappointing meal in the past 2 months. they were out of a lot of the items on theior seasonal menu or they had not yet been preeped for the lunch timne offering at 1P. Out party of 5 was disappointed. the signature chicken pot bpie is still quite tasty however. i hope this is temporary and they are back up to their previous excellnt cuisine soon
As always the food and the service was excellent and a lovely way to celebrate a birthday.
Great food and hostess. The fried green matos were beyond good.
We wanted a restaurant far from the busyness of Ocean City and this was a delightful find. Service was attentive, food was beautifully and deliciously prepared. The decor is Colonial, fitting since this tavern has been here in Princess Anne for more than 200 years. Did Washington ever come here? Could be. Certainly glad we took the drive to eat here.
Celebrating our wedding anniversary, it was a treat to dine at the historic Washington Inn & Tavern, circa 1744, in Princess Anne, MD. Although a shortened Sunday fare, there was plenty to choose and we selected fish & chips and a crab cake sandwich for the meal. From the Maryland style crab bisque starter to the Grande Marnier Creme Brulee and Apple Crisp deserts, the meal was delicious. The atmosphere was quiet, the service very friendly. Breakfast the next morning
was excellent with made to order pancakes, bacon, eggs and hashbrowns. The morning wait
staff was equally as friendly. We will certainly return and bring friends!
Only average, was expecting something a little more enjoyable. Wait staff not friendly and the food was only average. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends.
The seafood was amazing ,service excellent ! the crab bisque was terrific
The chef knows what he is doing, the food is excellent, and very reasonably priced.
Our server was very personable. Food was well prepared. Menu is a great change of pace from the usual Eastern Shore fare. Will be back. The setting is historical and the Inn was well restored. It is great to see such care was taken in the restoration. The Washington Inn is a hidden gem.
Couldn't be better. Delicious food, great service-- Nicole !
The service was horrible, we had to ask her to have the water filled on three different occasions and once she forgot. Prices expensive for selections.
We have been several times. The food is really good, and the price is very reasonable. Menu is somewhat small, but everything is well prepared from the salads to the entrees. The décor is somewhat average, but it is quiet and comfortable and the service has always been very friendly and attentive.
Princess Anne is not the first place most people would think to go for dinner, but the Washington Inn is certainly worth a trip or a stop if you are in the area. And they have fried green tomatoes!
The waitress was awesome and the food was very good. There were 4 of us at our table and 2 other tables with 2 people at each table. After the 4 of us ordered breakfast it took about 40 minutes to get it and then 3 of us got cold food. So other than waiting so long to be fed, everything was very nice and yes, we will return. A little on the expensive side for breakfast food.
The Inn came highly recommended by a local B & B and met all expectation. The seafood was superb and helpings were generous. Our server, Hira, was attentive without hovering, had a good sense of humor and helped with the request that I made about the soft shell crabs.
We look forward to returning!
Had lunch with friends on 6/20/17. I had been before and loved it. We are always looking to try new places. I told them about The Washington Hotel, and so we came. We were all pleased with the food, service, and quality. We will definitely return.
My friend and I enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience. Our waitress, Amanda, was great, as was the summer salads!
An overlooked treasure in Princess Anne, MD. Food is delicious; service is friendly and prompt. Prices are reasonable. It is great to have a choice that isn't fast food!
Although we had a little wait until our waitress came to our table, the service was excellent after that. The food was excellent. I had the best prime rib I've had in years. This restaurant has that old tavern atmosphere (the building goes back to 1790). After I paid our bill, I left my credit card on our table (doh!). Our waitress came running out to the parking lot to catch us and return the card before we left. Now that is service!
Will return to try other selections that also looked good. Really enjoyed it.
My husband and I and another couple were there for dinner Friday night. The Caesar salad was good according to my husband, there were also fried green tomatoes, who knew? They were amazing! In he world of oysters, Chincoteague oysters are the King and I've never had any better. Grilled salmon, yum, dessert double yum for flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. A good white Italian wine and selection of beer. We usually eat in the restaurant but opted for the tavern because it's more casual and the tables are larger. We all travel and seek out good food but it's really nice to have a really good restaurant in my home town. The wait staff were very sweet and friendly. My friends said they will definately be back.
Had a very positive experience! Food was very good and service was great! Highly recommend.
We stayed at the Washington Inn & Tavern in Princess Anne this weekend. Had reservations for dinner Friday - started with Fried Green tomatoes with bacon & aioli sauce, my girlfriend had the soft shell crabs and I had the Oyster Pot Pie. Every dish was outstanding - cooked to perfection, well presented and delicious. Portions were more than enough, maybe even a touch too much!
Service was great - pleasant, professional staff who clearly enjoy their work and take service to customers seriously.
Food was so good, we came back Saturday night (considered a few other places, but weren't up to travel 15+ miles to find a comparable restaurant). We started with oysters Rockefeller (juicy, perfectly done and complimented with a good beer and wine choice), then my girlfriend had the butternut squash soup and I had the fettuccini with shrimp. Again, cooked to perfection, flavorful and great service.
Good wine selection and great beer selection - made for a wonderful weekend.
I have gone to the Washington Inn and Tavern on several occasions. Each time the staff is friendly and the food has been delicious- lots of choices and reasonable prices. There are several rooms including a small outdoor patio and outdoor seating out front. Delightful experience each time.
Excellent food and service
We had such high hopes but were sorely disappointed. The wine list is *terrible*. Clearly no one gave much thought to trying to pair it with the food. Not a single Chardonnay on the menu. Lots of sweet wines. The liquor selection was also very disappointing. The food was mediocre. Lots of heavy dishes without a lot of flavor. We asked the chef if the tuna was fresh and he said he wasn't sure- that he just put in the order with the store and took whatever they gave him. WHO DOES THAT????!!!??? It is a disgrace to the profession. The best thing was the bread and olive oil. The dessert came out almost frozen and had to be sent back. Blueberry crumble should NOT be served cold. Then, the manager tried to tell us the red velvet smith island cake had chocolate icing, which would frankly be ridiculous. Our waitress was very nice but, bless her heart, she could not overcome the disaster. After a $4 million restoration you would expect much more. At least rip up the old dirty carpet in the dining rooms, for goodness sake! Given the area, there could be large clientele who would drive from Salisbury for dinner (instead of hike to Berlin or Easton) if they could get things together. The history is there, but without better food and drink you might as well just re-install the Keno machines.....
Loved the food and the atmosphere. The seafood stew was superb
Excellent food. Service friendly but slow. Great ambience. We sat in a secluded nook which was great for conversation. Lovely building. Its nice to have such a nice place in Princess Anne.
