Santa Monica steakhouse serving up the classics since 1949. Our menu features the highest quality steaks, our famous prime rib, pastas, and more in a warm, friendly, intimate atmosphere. Guests can enjoy dinner and finely crafted cocktails at our bar, fireplace lounge or dining room. The historic restaurant also features an outstanding wine program. Happy hour is also available all over the restaurant.

The restaurant used to be excellent. I don’t know what changed but the French onion soup was only croutons and cheese, practically no broth. The salmon was very overcooked. The steak sandwich was more of a cheese-steak on a roll, not at all what it sounded like on the menu. The wedge salad was swimming in dressing and there was so much blue cheese floating around, my husband couldn’t taste anything else. The burger was good, the onion rings great, but I won’t return. Very expensive. $264 for 4 people. Not worth it.

We are regulars for a reason. Happy hour on the patio with favorite waitstaff and the pup is welcomed. The food especially those burgers and tacos are delicious. The burgers are best in the city (that’s coming from a very occasional meat eater). Cocktails supurb. Fun ambience a great place just for us 2 or meeting friends. We’ve introduced many to the GB. We’ve been going there since Donald owned it (we were young)! Lots of memories

We went for Mothers Day but they didn’t really have a special menu (although they advertised it) or do anything unique for the day (no flowers etc). Overall, our food was mediocre and although I specifically asked for no mushrooms with my dish- of course they got it wrong and it actually seemed to have extra mushrooms. My daughter had a cheeseburger which seemed like a safe bet for a steakhouse but it was also not very good (she left it half eaten). And my wife had the huevis rancheros and all I can say is that her stomach was hurting by the time we went home. I used to go the old Golden Bull for steaks and roast beef and thought the patio they built during the pandemic would be fun for Mothers Day; boy was I was wrong. (PS It was half filled at best and that should have been a tip off)

I like the Golden Bull. It's a throwback to the 60's steakhouse that's a half block from the Pacific. The menu is mostly classic steakhouse fare. Our server was delightful. She bubbled with personality, was attentive, and kept the evening moving at an enjoyable pace. My martini was crisp, clean, and more than generous. The caesar salad was one of the best I've had. My son and I split the Tomahawk Steak. I like my steak a little more done that he does so our server brought it to the table medium rare then took my slices back to the kitchen for a bit more finishing. It was delicious. Fries were firm and crisp. The creamed spinach wasn't quite as creamy as I expected but it was good... and probably healthier that way. All in all a really enjoyable evening.

We love it and it’s usually very consistently pleasing. There were little kids running around screaming which was a little off putting. But our waitress was terrific and the food and timing were both great.
