Rascal Modern Diner

The food and service was great! It was a little noisy, but it was Saturday night, so par for the course.
I really wanted to like this restaurant, but it just didn't work for us. They have only been opened for a month so, perhaps, they just need to work out some bumps. The restaurant was not all that crowded, but the open floor plan and music from the adjacent lounge made communication at our table challenging. Our waitress wore a mask which we support, but it was very difficult to hear and understand her. They were out of several items that we had expressed an interest in, which was disappointing. When our food arrived, we had to send back one of the plates as the salmon was quite burned. My husband enjoyed his steak, but the salmon and pasta were bland. We splurged for dessert and had the bourbon pecan chocolate pie. We never tasted any bourbon, but the chocolate syrup was pretty good. Nothing to write home about, though. Finally, the meal was quite expensive. For the price, we expected a much nicer dining experience.
A side note, they do have a nice, large patio and a menu for Fido.
We enjoyed eating there but found it overpriced compared to what we received.
Food was delicious. The drinks (which were very tiny and very expensive, with a lot of ice) took forever to come to the table. Second round came when dinner was ended. Overall - great restaurant.
Food and service were great!! Look forward to dining there again!!
We have high hopes for this restaurant (it’s part of an otherwise good restaurant group) but the pretty-new Rascal is still a work in progress. Our server was excellent and the remodeled decor, which is generally well done with an unfortunate mistake or two (though beauty is in the eye of the beholder,) is mostly fresh and pleasing. And a nice menu and friendly reception round out the positives.
The kitchen was slow, however, especially considering the place was maybe only 60% occupied. Worse yet was that our food wasn’t served hot and it wasn’t prepared to our satisfaction. They did remake one of our dinners and discounted our meal, which at least showed some awareness. So that was good. But restaurants ultimately are principally about good food and Rascal is just not there yet.
Absolutely excellent food. It was completely unexpected as we were trying to get into another restaurant operated by this chef. I would go back once a week if I lived here. Everything that we ate was off the charts. We had just left the Boulders in Carefree and, unequivocally, this place puts the food at the Boulders to shame. I highly recommend it.
Good food and pleasantly surprised. Waiter was amazing and did a great job on a busy Thanksgiving day.
Service was good and servers were polite. Food was really good. Nice place. Some people ordered off the menu and everything looked great. Will go back to try dishes off the menu
We had a reservation Thanksgiving morning and were excited to try Rascal. A newer space in Sedona at Wilde resort, I was surprised they weren't very busy.
Decor was very cute (they totally hit the modern diner them they were going for). We were seated promptly, and our server was friendly. I ordered coffee (perfectly fine but nothing to write home about. My dining companion ordered iced tea, but it was nearly undrinkable, super dark and tasting more like Crystal Light "tea." Oddly I saw another diner order and receive iced tea and it looked nothing like what we got, and although our glass sat on the end of the table untouched after that first sip, the server never inquired about it.
I had the huevos rancheros and my companion the brisket hash. Neither looked quite what we expected when they arrived (food service was fast), definitely trying really hard to declare itself upscale.
The potato medley was tasty but on the cold side. My ranchero sauce was good and I liked the charred jalapeño served with my meal, but the tortillas weren't crisped, and the beans lacked flavor. My companion's experience was similar, with a mix of good and mediocre elements. All in all, an acceptable meal but nothing to write home about (well, worth writing to Yelp about).
We enjoyed the “Outdoor” feel while dining inside within the restaurant - lots of windows, open space between tables, and the restaurant is near the the opened doors off the main outside patio/fire out. Very nice experience from the friendly staff. Heather was our waitress and was on too of everything.
Food and ambiance was good, we did not have luck with our waitress: forgot our cocktails, took away the silverware with the appetizer plates and forgot to bring it with the main course. We have asked for a red wine, brought a white one and on the bill she overcharged us. The neighboring tables seemed to have better service, so it is just your luck.
The food was excellent. Scallops and Pork Belly: YUMMY
It just wasn’t that great. We ordered the cheese board which we never got. It was mine and my husband’s anniversary and they didn’t ask us if we were celebrating anything even though when I put in the reservation I put that we were there for it. The food was overall bland and overpriced
Food good but pricey for the kind of place it was. Service very good.
Food was great and good value. A great place for get together.
The food was good but they would not change anything on the menu. My husband wanted gravy for his mashed potatoes. That was only offered in the morning. It seemed that the food was a little slow to come out. Our server was pleasant but after the food was served we never saw her again until she came back to the table and inquired if we would like more beverages.
We've been trying Rascal every couple of weeks to see how it's evolving. The food is getting better, and the service has definitely improved. The decor is still awful. Hope it continues to improve - it sure is attracting a lot of diners, so reservations are a must.
Really nice new addition to the Sedona food scene. Innovative dishes, consistent quality and a good wine selection. Service is very good. The happy hour is awesome because there are some excellent food choices and lots of wines/beers/cocktails to choose from - at a lower price.
Overall it is expensive, but not the most expensive in Sedona. All dining is expensive in Sedona though - Tourist Town!
Great menu and great food.
Excellent choices and ambiance.
Excellent menu. Friendly good service. The biscuits and gravy were excellent. Loved our brunch here. Lots of good choices. We look forward to returning again soon.
The food was amazing and our server was great! Highly recommended!
Excellent! The grilled cheese was absolutely delicious. Great food and great prices.
We were on a girls trip and decided to try Rascal for dinner. The seating is open and bright and they had live music there.
The food was delicious, I had the plum tomato soup and three different types of bruschetta, delicious!
Terrible deco. Menu looks good but the food is aweful.
We had lunch at about 11:30. The service was friendly and paced so that we were able to spend as much time visiting as we wished. The food was delicious, in keeping with Chef Mercer's usual excellent quality, and the menu was varied and interesting. The servings were so large that we took home a 'to go' box.
Our waiter Doran made our night special. The wines were wonderful off of the carafe menu. Every dinner choice was outstanding.
The menu for breakfast was great! Lisa was fantastic.
Will definitely be back! So glad for open table because I would have never found this gem.
Really good food and great service all the way around. The firecracker shrimp and ahi tuna nachos, each recommended by our waitress, were particularly good. The complexity of flavors demonstrates chef sophistication..
Rascal was nice, but the prices were way too high for the casual ambience.
Think the main thing that would have given the place a more settled and
rich appearance would be tablecloths, or tables that were darker... not light oak
veneer. The seats were not particularly comfy either...again more of a casual vibe.
It looked like a casual burger joint...not reflected in most of the prices, which were fairly high. Guess they were going for a younger crowd, but many of the folks were over 60, or so it appeared. The food was very good, and the staff friendly, courteous, and responsive.
The overflow room had uncomfortable chairs and isolates you from rest us from the other parts of the restaurant.
Another noisy restaurant in Sedona. Bad decor. Noisy. Unimaginative food. The spicy chicken soup had a lumpy broth with maybe one oz. of chicken but it was spicy. I had the salmon, my wife had the chicken piccata both were served with the same absolutely tasteless pasta side dish. The salmon and chicken were okay but it confirm why food was left on the plates of the couple at the table beside us when they left. The ice tea was made with powder tea, absolutely horrible. I was able to drown my Arnold Palmer by squeezing real lemon in it. Brittany, our server tried her best with what she had to work with. She was a sweet gal.
Rascal is Sedona's newest Mercer Mohr restaurant - opened just a couple of weeks ago. The food was good, but not excellent at this point, and the service needs some work, but Rascal has plenty of potential, and it was already very crowded, so reservations are a must. The atmosphere is supposed to be modern diner, but it really makes no sense.
Welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and prompt service. Thank you to the friendly staff!
We planned to eat at the Mesa Grill, but the website directed me to Rascal and I didn't realize my reservation was not at Mesa until we arrived there. Rascal is new, so we were directed there and found it easily. It's part of a hotel and the decor is very hotel sterile. The lighting is not inviting. The service was prompt and friendly, but the place was not crowded, so we had plenty of attention. The prices were high for the quality and portions compared to Mesa Grill. I would say it's okay in a pinch, but i wouldn't go out of my way to dine there.
I would actually prefer this fabulous restaurant to be kept a secret but I cannot tell a lie… Rascal opened just a few weeks ago and my husband I have been there four times as of today and absolutely love it and have brought friends as well. We thank the chef for opening a West Sedona location!
Great food! Loud inside but nice outside
Hummus, delicious....Wine decent. Unfortunately the noise level precluded having a converation without shouting so my visit was short. Not bad if you are not sensitive to noisy environments.
The long waited Reno was a huge disappointment. The lounge area was ok, but the Dining Room was more of a coffee shop /Diner decor with a bar. Good only for breakfast. No fine dining ambience, which the former Reds had. The dinner prices are ridiculous, far too high for a Diner. The new owners should request a totally new design.
Wine by glass prices are far too high. Based on my 30-year experience with restaurants, this is the worst Reno I have ever seen. The back room is a disgrace, with some cheap metal chairs and no ambience at all. Local Sedona residents will stay away from this restaurant, and so will I. Rascals is a waste of time and money.
