   We have dined as a family of 6 with 4 boys, a couple or a larger party of 9 and every time it has been great! No matter if it is lunch or dinner, we always find something great on the menu which includes candied bacon no matter the occasion! This is a staple for our family!

   Haven’t been here since 2021 and my husband I just went this weekend… the food wasn’t as good as I remembered and I was a little disappointed but our server was great and they made the elk burgers for us even though they weren’t on the “St Paddy’s day” menu.

   Service was not great. Waiting almost 1 hour for our food, server let us know it was because of “brunch” traffic even though tables sat after us received their food and left. Would not recommend for the wait and the food was not great.

    Our waitress could not be bothered with us. The place was not crowded but she would come over to the table, talk to one person to get an order, then would run off like she was in a big hurry, without asking if anyone else needed anything. Then she would place something down on the table and disappear immediately without checking to see if we needed anything else. I actually had to go over to the bar to get a drink at one point because she would not come back to the table. The duck nachos barely had any meat on them. The hummus was pretty good. My burger was good (the mushroom one) but my husband’s elk burger was a mess…bun was falling apart, etc. Our friends said their food was ok but they were not overwhelmed either. All in all it was not a great experience.

    Overall, a very good experience. We enjoyed the Platypus Burger and the Beet salad. It got a bit noisy but was otherwise a nice, pleasant evening. Thank you!

    Always like Platypus and Gnome, Food is always delicious and unique. We will continue to visit occasionally for that reason. We are not major fans of the downtown area of Wilmington for various reasons but it is good food like P and G that brings us there!

    Platypus and Gnome never disappoints. We have eaten there many times and usually try something new. This time the Fall menu was featured. For starters we shared a bowl of Wild Boar Soup, it was absolutely delicious. We plan to go back just for the soup. I had A Little Off-Beet salad, simply perfect blend of sweet beets and savory duck pastrami with a simple vinaigrette. Husband had the Elk Burger and it was also delicious and cooked to perfection. We both highly recommend this restaurant for an eclectic selection of wonderful fare!

    We didn’t even stay to eat. It was empty @ 7pm in a Thursday night. It was 40 degrees outside but they had all the ceiling fans at full blast. When we asked if they could lower them, they rudely said no -the kitchen gets hot. Not the right answer. We up and left!

    First timer and really enjoyed the food. Tried several of the eclectic food options and all were very good. The service was borderline bad and several of our choices were not available. The manager should find a way to get to a store and buy coffee for brunch instead of telling the customers the roasting vendor is the problem. This is a one and done for me. Really enjoyed the food, service and management ruined the outcome.

    Meal after the show and we wanted to experience something a bit different. The menu intrigued us and we spread our wings a bit and had yak and pumpkin chili, wild boar soup and an ostrich panini. All were very good. Waitress was super friendly and we were very happy.

    Our server amber was so informed and amazing we came in and were immediately sat and taken care of. The food was amazing. Very different then most but delish. I had the ostrich steak panini and my partner had the linguini dish. The chef has some very inventive dishes. The cocktails were amazing very flavorful and balanced. All the employees seemed to be in good spirits and the Halloween decorations were very cute. Overall a pleasant experience and the music was awesome!

    To put it simply, the food was quite good, but the service was abysmal, and that's doing a disservice to the word "abysmal". The servers stood at the service station and chatted with one another when they should've been paying attention to their customers. We waited over 15 minutes to be acknowledged after being seated, another 5 for water, and another 5 for the server to come over. Our server did not check on us during our meal, and after asking for mustard to accompany his burger, he was nearly halfway through it before the server brought mustard. And, all this happened while less than half of the tables were being used. It's really quite sad because the food was good and the menu was creative.

    Our server didn’t get our food order or our drinks out to us for 35 minutes. It got so bad that the table next to us asked the host to have our server come check on us cause no one had been to our table for over 30 minutes. Our food came out lukewarm 45 minutes later

    I hate to leave a review like this: but it was not a great experience. We got there a few moments after our reservation start time & there was a large birthday party. A handful of other tables, but our server was on our table & the large party. We totally got forgotten over the larger party. A table was sat next to us about 20 minutes after us- that received their drinks, food, and left before we even got our meals. Upon receiving our meals- they were handed to the wrong people. & while they were all burgers- two people ate what they did not order. Another got what they did not expect because the server didn’t understand what they were had ordered & didn’t ask for clarification. They did comp a round of drinks which was nice, but a 2 hour wait time on dinner for 5 seems a little wild. Especially seeing a table sat after us leaving happy with their meal. The birthday party, also seemed to have a wonderful time. The food was good, but after waiting a long as we did, anything would have been good. It just wasn’t the experience I expected & was disappointed because it was clear we were considered secondary to the server.

    Happy hour price was very good value. The candied bacon very good! Ostrich tough. Elk carpaccio very tasty but chewy. Tuna tartare excellent. Will go back.

    We love this restaurant! So much fun to try all the different meats and cheeses! Every dish we have had has been amazing! We traveled to Wilmington because we wanted to eat here again. Looking forward to our next visit.

    I thought the menu looked interesting while booking, but the quality of the food was not good. Disappointed. My kale salad was not chopped up at all, it had a few apricots in it and my tuna was way over cooked. I paid $27 for a greens and tuna. My husbands ostrich sandwich was stringy and not cooked thru. Later that night he became very sick. I would not go back. Service was good. Didn’t like being out upstairs when the downstairs was open with many tables.

    We were seated up stairs in a lounge atmosphere which was great. Our server, Nick, did a great job. It had to be tough going up and down the stairs a lot with our drinks, appetizers, and main courses. The food was a bit eccentric but very good. The menu isn’t for someone just looking for a burger and fries, the choices are definitely elevated. The temperature in the room could have been a little lower but I’m sure the extreme heat outside didn’t make that easier. Everyone was pleased with our dinner and we would definitely go back soon.

    I dropped off the other three people in my party and I went searching for a place to park. When I arrived, my party had already been seated and had ordered drinks. I was extremely cold because the fans were on, and the air conditioning was blowing directly on me. Since the other three people at my table had already ordered drinks, I thought I would not make a big deal and try to deal with it. (I learned after the dinner on the ride home that one of the guests had asked to turn the fans and/or the A/C blower down but the waitress said that she was unable to do so.) The waitress was pleasant, and we all ordered our meals. One of us asked for no bread with his Elk Burger and two of us requested no potatoes or cheesy grits with our meal and please substitute extra vegetables. A short time later, the waitress returned and advised us that the kitchen stated that all meals are pre-portioned and that they come as described and nothing can be changed. I changed my meal to a salad with grilled chicken. The meals looked good in the pictures. My salad was just a salad and nothing really special. My wife ordered the lamb chops, which she said were small and had a lot of gristle. My friend who ordered the Elk Burger came with bread, but the worst part was the french fries were ice cold. This place is dirty, the bench directly next to us in the front of the restaurant facing the street. It is very hard for me to understand that if you have a restaurant, how you would not try to make your guests happy. Not sure if this was an off night and maybe whoever was in charge was having an off day. No one ever came by and asked us how our meal was, not even the waitress. If you can be so rigid about your menu, then you should also be so rigid about the cleanliness of your restaurant. If you still decide to come to this restaurant, which is your decision, bring your coat with you. Remember that you will have your meal the way the kitchen wants you to have it!
