Great views and amenities. Staff is outstanding. Food was meh. Steak tough and way too fatty. Pasta sauce flavorless.

Our group decided to spend New Years Eve at this restaurant/hotel given their incredible views. For the price point, the food and service felt like a bit of an afterthought and the food felt short of reasonable expectation. For example, the risotto was undercooked and the rib eye was not rib eye, it was brisket or something similar (some in our group got very fatty pieces and some undercooked pieces). Having said this, ambiance, venue and welcome were exceptional. We want to be fair, had the food and service been better executed, we would enjoy returning for future New Years celebrations without a doubt.

Food was awful as well as the service. It was a 60th Birthday celebration that was a disaster. Will not be going back. Too bad, the view is magnificent!

Have eaten here 4 times, in the last two weeks, and going again tonight. Go early, to watch the sunset, and enjoy the music, three nights a week. The food is good, and friendly staff.

We started out our evening having a drink at the hotel lounge the Gin Joint on the roof. The view of the sunset from that deck is absolutely spectacular. It was Happy Hour and they had advertised two-for-one drinks. My husband and I ordered a martinin and a rum and coke. After we finished our drinks, we advised the server we were going to La Mar for dinner. He brought our bill which came to 350 pesos, the equivalent of $25.00 Canadian or $19.00 USD. When I questioned him on the two-for-one, he said that we could have our second one at dinner. I would call that "four-for-two".....and not cool that he didn't offer it without my asking. Add to that the price gouge, and the fact that the server brought every table but ours a bowl of nuts to snack on, we were not impressed, and will not return. Dinner at La Mar was also overpriced, but I understand you are paying a premium price for the view. The pizza was excellent as was the ceviche. I would not recommend my starter salad which consisted primarily of a soft cheese with the consistency and (lack of) flavour of tofu. There may have been 4 sprigs of arugula. The dressing was very sweet and lacked the acidity it needed from vinegar or lemon. The chicken breast main course I had was very good - the chicken was hot and cooked perfectly, as were the veggies. There was no starchy side with this meal which is fine if you are going low carb, however, the dish was swimming in a sweet, heavy sauce which I did not care for at all. Our server was good, but there was an overriding feeling of something being off at the restaurant. It is very quiet and the staff seems bored and a bit desperate for something to do. It is a shame as this restaurant and location have huge potential. I would return for pizza and the view.

Well this place should be incredible but it's not. I'm sure for some it's fantastic. We came on valentines same day reservation. There were so many open resevervstions when we came they gave us a table that wasn't that desirable I asked for a better one they said they were totally sold out. I showed them how there was open seatings every 15 minutes in open table. Then they agreed to move us to a lower level! I was very greatful it was quiter and more private. However with all the waiters they had you could tell the area hadn't been swept and we weren't the only people that were going to sit there. We had great wine and a spectacular fondue, except they forgot the seasoning that goes with the fondue. I had also ordered octopus for a starter, they forgot it of course. They also forgot to bring bread. My partner ordered a pizza, we should've known better. It would've been an ok pizza for laying by the pool in a hotel. For a nice place though it was laughable. It started to get cold so I wanted to get going after we finished. Of course the octopus was still on the bill, when a manager finally came to take it off after we had to convince them we didn't have it, he didn't seem to care. This is a great place for a drink and a fondue but for a nice romantic dinner there are so many more options that are much more reliable.

Clearly this place has the best view of Banderas Bay. The restaurant is elegant yet not stuffy with impeccable linen on the tables. The china, crystal and silverware are carefully chosen and of very high quality which makes lunch and dinner a heightened experience. The staff is attentive, polite and efficient. The food is delicious, and the preparation is inventive. I was told they only use local produce, some organic, and they shop daily for the best fish and seafood possible, and have managed to put their hand on one of the the best beef in Puerto Vallarta. The bar and wine list are very good with a price for every wallet. I am told the bar above the restaurant is opened for happy hour with a two for one every Friday (and soon Saturdays) with live music and the best sunset possible. I will definitely return many times.
