This was the second Michelin restaurant we have visited in the DC area recently. The food was really good quality, especially the Wagyu and tuna sashimi, and all the flavor combinations were really good, but I would've liked to see a little more adventurous options. The entire experience had a bit of a pretentious air. The specialty cocktails seemed a bit overpriced as well.
Good and service was great, but I’m a little miffed we got charged extra for something we never asked for.
We got the wine pairing and caviar add on. The waiter kindly said, not asked, that he’d bring champagne with the caviar as part of the pairing. We said ok, but when the bill came we got hit with an extra $60 charge for Champaign we never asked for.
We paid anyway and moved on, but felt a little shady after hanging with the staff all night and having a nice time that they still felt the need to throw on extra charges.
Bill came to over $1000, so I was surprised they snuck on extra charges. I just felt a little bit betrayed after having such a good rapport with waiter.
I’d go back, but won’t accept any thing extra without asking for the price
We enjoyed a delightful evening recently. The food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and gracious. Nothing was a problem - we changed our minds and wanted to eat upstairs for the view - no problem. We changed our drink order - no problem. We spilled a drink and they replaced it. Our menu questions were answered and their recommendations were spot on.
Excellent food, service, and hospitality! Loved the creative and beautifully presented, yet accessible dishes. Cool but comfortable ambience. Highly recommend!
Food and service were excellent. Quite disappointed with the wine pairings as they did not seem to compliment the dishes well and they were all white wines.
There’s not much to report unfortunately. We arrived on time for our reservation and had requested outside seating. It’s important to note that, online, there are several options for outside seating that are beautiful, somewhat enclosed, and have great lighting so that was our expectation when we arrived. Little did we know, there was a private event happening that night and they moved some tables to the sidewalk to accommodate. My partner and I were led outside and sat down next to a concrete slab on the sidewalk. This wasn’t an enclosed outside space. It was literally a table and two chairs placed on the sidewalk where a ton of people were walking by talking, smoking, laughing, etc RIGHT NEXT TO THE TABLE. There were three tables outside and another group of three ladies were also stunned at where they were sat. It was freezing and we were exposed to people inches away from our tables and the many sounds of ivy city. Both tables asked the woman who sat us if there was available inside seating and she said no. I asked them why they didn’t inform us that a private event was happening so we could modify our reservation (much better to be inside, at this point) and she apologized and said there were no other options. So we left. It was disappointing to say the least. Please do better at informing your customers when circumstances change for their reservation. We were really looking forward to our dinner here and the disregard for our time was disappointing.
Overall the experience was good. The major issues were the speed at which the courses were coming out. It felt more like they were using the opportunity to push drinks than spending the time on the food. Had to request bread multiple times to keep up with the cocktails. The experience did feel special, but maybe mot $500 worth of special (incl. tip)
Got there early and had a drink at their rooftop bar. Nice ambiance up there and the beautiful weather contributed. Felt special as guests because service was superb. The food was delish but probably could have been heartier for male guests…just right for gals. Outdoor signage is obscure. GPS to the rescue. Overall a great experience!

Trendy industrial decor in gentrifiying former warehouse neighborhood in NE DC provided a nice ambience. The 5-course prix-fixe tasting menu offered three choices for each course which was great (watch out for expensive supplements offered for several of the courses). Each course was amazing but a little too small and I can’t say I was full when I left the restaurant. The cocktails were great as was the wine selection. The pricing was a little ridiculous though, especially after cocktails, wine and coffee. I guess one is paying for that Michelin star! I would definitely go back - if someone else is treating
Date night with someone special and Gravitas was the perfect balance of ambiance and energy. Everyone serving us was extremely pleasant and very helpful when we asked specific questions about the drinks and menu items. All courses were amazing and you could truly enjoy the craftsmanship that went into every taste and presentation. Coming from (2) very design oriented professionals, Gravitas should be experienced by everyone in the D.C. and DMV area.
The staff at Gravitas was wonderful. The watermelon gazpacho appetizer was amazing. Branzino main was tasty but a little dry. The dry aged strip steak was a disappoinment. Lots of gristle, difficult to cut through at times. Served with a sauce that shouldn't be necessary with a good dry aged piece of meat.
The food was pretty good. However, we sat outside and the ambiance was not great. We were right on the sidewalk and there was quite a bit of noise from all the cars. Also, service was not great outside. They seemed to forget about us. Definitely not what would be expected for an expensive Michelin star restaurant.

My husband and I had a lovely dinner out to celebrate our anniversary. We had a bit of a slow start to our meal but wanted to be mindful that the restaurant industry is still hurting from the pandemic. By slow start I mean it took an hour and 20 mins for us to get bread and they had already served us our bottle of wine and refilled our glasses. In that time, I saw a couple who came in after us in a different section get served three of their courses before we got our bread. Needless to say, I was a bit tipsy and hangry.
As a testament to their professionalism, once our waiter realized we had been waiting for a bit, everything was smooth sailing and they were incredibly apologetic. I was happy they acknowledged our wait time without us having to complain. Our food came out promptly and our favorite dishes were the tuna sashimi, lobster tail, schnitzel, wagyu ribeye, and root beer float dessert. We loved getting to sample other small bites and the dessert wine in honor of our anniversary. We know that mistakes happen and we were more than happy with how our waiter handled it with grace. We would highly recommend going there for date night, anniversaries, birthdays, or any other celebration!
Clientele was extremely casual, which did not fit the expectation. Music choice was sub par and chaotic. Food was some of the best I have ever had - extremely creative and full of explosive flavor. Definitely overpriced for setting.
Food was very uneven - starters were excellent, pasta indifferent, and main courses downright bad. Wine markup also notably high even for a restaurant. Servers were very nice, but overall a disappointment.
If you do go, make sure to specify a table on the main floor, not the balcony.
A very good restaurant, but quality had slipped at our last visit. It seems that the chef no longer is investing as much personal attention in this kitchen. The classic dishes are still pretty solid.
Great experience overall but was hoping for a faster more efficient service
While the food was good, it didn't blow my socks off compared to other Michelin starred restaurants I have eaten at. The place was a bit noisy and that coupled with the waiters' masks meant that we couldn't hear much of anything that they said when they came out and explained the dishes. I took wine pairing with my food - I felt that the $115 up-charge for wine-pairing wasn't worth it (for the 5 pours of wines). Wine pairings at The Plume or 2941 were significantly better - the wines actually complemented and in some ways completed the dish in those places. Not only that, my wines came either too early or too late (except for the 1st one) with respect to my food. The cocktails on the other hand (that my son might be a unique experience for some, but not for me).
Amazing service, and unreal tasting menu. It is more expensive than some other chefs tastings but the portion as bigger and you walk away feeling full and happy. Would definitely return and suggest to others
Incredible meal, with spectacular flavors, and fun, friendly, accommodating staff! I will most definitely go out of my way to dine here again.
We were so disappointed about this restaurant. Firstly, there is no sign of the name of restaurant that we could see when we arrived, so Uber driver and us were confused where the restaurant was. Secondly, the exterior and interior of the restaurant looks like a warehouse, which has nothing to do with elegance and grace that associated with a Michelin star restaurant. Thirdly, the noise was so loud, table was so close to each other, and table was in such a low quality, and we thought we walked into a restaurant proves cheap food. We had tasting menu. The food was ok, the presentation was nice. Overall this restaurant does not feel like a Michelin star restaurant rather a bar type restaurant. It is not worth the money at all. I feel so sorry that this is the first time that my friend dined in a Michelin star restaurant. I am afraid that she will not be interested in eating in a Michelin restaurant in the future based on this dining experience.
The food was exceptional as was the bubbles and wine. The service was also really terrific. A great place for a special occasion.
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner celebrating our anniversary. We had a lot of fun - not just dinner. The food was excellent with a wide range of fresh ingredients that were innovatively and expertly put together. The service was wonderful;, staff were attentive, and the staff was knowledgable about the dishes and ingredients, they swapped out silver after every course, and drinks always refilled. Dinner was over 2.5 hours for the entire pre fixe meal so plan accordingly.
Some small suggestions for improvement were to consider a more curated music playlist - the top 40 from the 90s was so distracting considering the food experience and let's face it - the cost - and it was a bit loud when trying to hear the waiter or runner explaining the detailed dishes. I had fun anyway and would love to go back soon.

Each course was superb. The tuna sashimi was swoonworthy and the veloute with lobster equally so. My only complaint is that for geezers like me, six courses are too many. We had to take one full course home and I know it wasn't as good the second day. I will be going back though, very happily.
I booked Gravitas initially for a party of three to celebrate my daughters eigteenth birthday. Expanding the booking to five people just six days before was no problem. The restaurant staff was very responsive to my email request making arrangements within the hour of receving my note. My reservation was for outside on their roof top patio. We arrived layered and equiped wiht a blanket or two as it turned out to be a very windy evening at 52F. Needlessly. Thankfully the staff of Gravitas were mindful of the chill factor and had moved us to what I susoect in non pandemic times is the foyer The windows were wide open, they had a small heater for each table and, yes, blankets! Something I have in the past experienced only in Turkey. We were made to feel very welcomed and taken good care of by the knowledgable and mindful staff throughout the seven course chef's tasting menue which we thouroughly enjoyed. We are very much tasters so there was some food sharing going on which was not frowned upon. All dishes were very tasty and served with a lot f appeal to the eye. Added to the seven course was a small greeting from the kitchen plus hot homemade breads. The adults opted for the wine pairing and the somelier (as well as our head waiter) explained all wines origin and flavor (and te different dishes). Topping it of was a small cake with a candle for the birthday adult. All in all a wonderful experience fully meeting my expectation of Michelin star dining. Our reservation was for 6pm, which initally I thought to be on the early side. No regrts though as the meal took roughly four hours., so do book the early slot if you can. I would absolutely go again.
Given this was our first venture to a restaurant after 388 days of #stayhome we were a littel concerned, but saftey and cleanliness protocolls were followed to the T. The bussing staff did ask us (none of the other tables though) to put on masks while clearing between courses. We felt very safe.
A very cool warehouse space but no name on the outside so hard to find. We did the wine pairing and I liked that the tasting menu had a couple of options for each course. We loved everything we ate - especially for me the hen egg with black truffle course and the garganelli. My husbands favorites were the garganelli and the lightly poached scallop. Both desserts were delicious but we both slightly preferred the lightness of the panna cotta with strawberry and rhubarb
Went there as a group of 4. We all got a drink each and ended up paying 30 dollars for it. There is a hidden 3 dollar charge per person due to covid which is ridiculous. The drinks were not worth it and safe to say it’s the last time we will go there. Ambiance is cool but way too overpriced for where it is located.
Auto charged 22% tip which is OK. But the tip charging based on food and sales taxes together is not OK.
When we made reservation, the price per person was $120 on Open table, but when we arrived, it was $150 per person on the menu.
We spent about $500 (with two drinks) total for two people.

The caviar and truffle covered Brioche with Champagne is the perfect way to start the evening. If you have not done Absinthe as them to pour it the classic way. You will enjoy the experience.
Took my hubby for his birthday here. We were seated, then waited for 30 minutes before someone came to our table. However, the food and over all experience was amazing!
The two of five courses were over salty.
Also customer shouldn’t be charged for tax of the service fee. Tip is not taxable item for customer.
For $140,- per tasting menu, you can expect top quality with Asian fusion influence - and we really enjoyed fantastic food, beautifully presented & excellent service!
BUT, the price is simply too high and should be downgraded , especially when you combine the menu with the proposed wine selection, you find yourself at $225,- p.p., a rather expensive experience!
AND the really surprise comes: you have no choice of tipping whatever you want, rather a 22% tip is automatically included in the check, AS WELL as $6,- p.p. extra Covid fee for cleaning and disinfecting! We normally give a good tip, but it still should be your choice!
And the Covid fee - ridiculous for this kind of restaurant! We complained and the $12 were deducted :) .
Everything about the experience was fantastic. Good, service, wine pairing—all amazing. Especially nice that the founder and chef Matt Baker came in on his day off to chat with us (my name is Matt Baker also). He’s a great guy and runs a great place.
