Amelia's Mexican Kitchen is a restaurant that fuses Traditional Mexican kitchen with modern twists.
Chef Jose Contreras has been named a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Southwest (AZ, NM, NV, OK). Named after his grandmother, Amelia, Chef Contreras brings family traditions to life with dishes like enchiladas, chilaquiles, quesabirria, molcajetes and tamales. With two locations in Tucson. Our signature dish "Amelia's Molcajete" is widely known in Tucson as one of the best.
We received several rewards for our food, the latest was 1st and 2nd place in best salsa & 1rd. place for best taco .
Amelia's Mexican Kitchen 2nd location is a cozy and modern place to share amazing food with amazing people.

    Very limited parking. Handful of spaces in front and parking in back is narrow and scary.

    We have dined here several times and the food is always excellent. We took our son from out of town for some Mexican food. I ordered the 4-taquitos plates while my husband and son ordered the combination plates. Nicely presented, food came out hot with very little wait time. We were there around 5:15 pm. The restaurant is small with around 7 tables. There’s also outside patio dining areas with about the same number of tables. Restaurant gets busy later in the evening

    Great friendly staff. Excellent food every time. Highly recommend the beef tamales for breakfast or dinner, they’re on both menus. The refried beans there are excellent! Met up with three friends to have a nice lunch/breakfast and catch up over excellent food. Parking is a drawback and the noise level especially if you want to sit outside. But the food is really remarkable and worth it

    Ok, not great. Extremely NOUSY. Waitress kept forgetting our order. Had a combination platter. On the red and green enchilada, the red sauce was definitely out of a can. Give me a break. The Tamale was great . The taquito was OK but dry. We also had a Caesar salad with Carne Asada on top. Not really a Caesar salad, but the beef on it was OK. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things… Otherwise, why did other people give this place such good reviews? Would not return.

    Their chile rellenos with rice and beans are the best in town. We also love their grilled burrias tacos with the doippig sauce - so good. Service was excellent. Reservations honored. Indoor and outdoor seatings.

    Great food, service, and margaritas! The food and drinks were reasonably priced and were delicious. We can’t wait to come back and plan to try the other location as well.

    Poor service. Employees seem rushed and overwhelmed. Food was good not great. Margaritas was super sweet tasted like it was from a premade mix
