Allora, which opened in East Sacramento in early 2018, specializes in contemporary Italian cuisine and top-notch wines. With the husband and wife team of advanced sommelier Deneb Williams and chef Elizabeth-Rose Mandalou as its owners, there’s equal emphasis on the wine collection and the menus. The former is on striking display in a glass-enclosed wine tower, a notable focal point inside the sleek, modern space. Dine on the seasonal patio and note the living garden wall, where microgreens and herbs are grown for use in the kitchen. Seafood and hand-made pastas are highlights of Allora’s frequently changing menus. The two come together in such creations as bucatini with Dungeness crab, sea urchin and garlic cream.

It’s a sister venue to the original in Las Vegas and shares a commitment to impeccable cuts of beef butchered daily in house, then seared over oak. While steaks are the major draw to Echo & Rig, creative small plates take up almost as much space on its all-day menu. Among them are fried Castlevetrano olives, roasted pumpkin squash with rosemary and maple, pork belly burnt ends and portobello fries with herbed aioli. All are ideal for sharing with friends over drinks, a nice alternative to the sit-down special-occasion meals in which the steakhouse also excels.
