Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Several years ago, I decided that my future in the restaurant business would most likely not remain in the realm of fine dining and gourmands, but would rather lean towards the style of restaurant that I found myself frequenting most often - places that provided consistency and quality at a price that was fair for the quality of the food and experience. Public House plays to the comforts of good, solid food, while applying the principles of premium food products to a more casual setting. You will find all the fish is delivered from Foley’s in Boston, high quality steaks and a rotating selection of vegetable sides that are true to the region and season.     We had such an amazing meal! Our server Phillip was absolutely spectacular - & so were all of his recommendations!! They had live music while we were there & it was so beautiful (& not too loud!); it was the perfect ambiance for such a gorgeous, moody restaurant. We will absolutely be back!!

    Views were phenomenal. Ate outdoors as weather was mild for this time of year, but heaters came on at just the right time to hold back any chill. Staff were approachable and professional. Cocktails and entrees were great. But we were disappointed in the prime rib spring rolls for an appetizer, which had been recommended. Too cheesy and floury. Overall a great meal and spectacular perch!

    My husband and I started with 2 appetizer’s, the raw oysters and the sourdough with mushrooms which were fabulous! We both had the steak and it was cooked perfectly & was absolutely delicious! Our meal at Judith was one that did not disappoint! From the atmosphere, service, phenomenal food and even met one of the nicest couples ever who were seated at the table next to us! Hands down one of the best meals we’ve ever had!

    Excellent dining experience. Our server was Colby, she was great, very attentive! We enjoyed the elk burger, smash burger, and instead of the regular house cut fries as a side, we ordered the duck fat French fry appetizer. Yum & perfectly done… Have to go back again soon for more delicious views of the fall colors and dessert!

    The food was delicious. The service was excellent. We celebrated a birthday & received a complimentary desert. Oysters were very good too!
