The Barn Steakhouse is a “meat-centric hideaway”, a supper club with style. Our new location is housed in an early dwelling on “The First Street” in downtown Highland Park. Hidden away down our alley-courtyard is 1898 Speakeasy and private event space. An homage to owner Amy Morton’s legendary father, restaurateur Arnie Morton (Morton’s Steakhouse), the menu boasts the finest quality ingredients available including heritage black Angus steaks. As The Barn's menu is ever-evolving, the exact menu may be different when you dine. This eatery provides seating for up to 75 guests in its private event space, as well as outdoor seating.

The pathos of the speakeasy has been defined by the poignant paradox of seeking joy within a restrictive era, blending a desperate quest for community with the constant, looming threat of discovery. This "romance of secrecy"—anchored by hushed whispers and hidden doors—transformed a defiant act of rebellion into an intense, immediate sense of belonging. In fact the term “speakeasy” grew out of the fact that guests, would have to speak in hushed tones, so not to be found out...Today, this legacy survives through a modern charm that prioritizes curated mystery over genuine danger; by stepping through an unmarked entrance, or, as in ours, a back alley, patrons trade the noise of the digital world for a dimly lit sanctuary of craftsmanship. Our contemporary and hopefully "hidden gem” will satisfy a deep-seated desire for exclusivity and analog connection, preserving the bittersweet nostalgia of time gone by, while elevating the experience into a sophisticated escape from the ordinary.

Serving a selection of Fresh Seafood delivered daily including Salmon, Whitefish, Mussels, Calamari..... All the classics are here, homemade pastas, hand carved and pounded out Chicken and Veal Parmigiana, Limone, Piccata, Calabrese, and of course Lasagnas, Meatballs, Chicken Vesuvio, and many more, and of course homemade desserts. Also, we offer some of the best thin, crisp crust pizza, which was the first pizza served on the North Shore at Scornavacco's since 1944.

    We had an excellent dinner! The restaurant is beautiful and the service was great! We loved the braised short rib and chicken parmesan. Delicious cocktails too!

    Café Dacha is a true hidden gem! The staff, food, and atmosphere are all absolutely outstanding. Eating here brought back wonderful memories of growing up in Russia—everything was incredibly tasty, authentic, and beautifully selected. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, allowing us to truly relax and enjoy our evening without ever feeling rushed. It’s a charming space that works perfectly for an intimate dinner date but can also comfortably accommodate larger gatherings. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to come back next summer to try their outdoor patio!

    This was a great place to sit and relax prior to dinner next door at The Barn. Drinks were fantastic and service from Alicia was outstanding. Definitely will be going back very soon.
