I went to 1812 for a belated birthday lunch, and the food, wine and service were all outstanding and the emphasis on local produce is excellent. The four course fixed price lunch is fantastic value at only £40, with each course being examples of flawless cooking. All of the wines by the glass that we tried were verywell chosen, and good value at £8 to 9 per glass. As I notified ahead that I don't eat meat, my third course was a piece of absolutely delicious firm river trout with a rapeseed emulsion sauce, rather than the lamb my companions had, but I'm told their meat was incredibly good! We also had Norfolk asparagus risotto, cod with courgette and a curried butter sauce, and a perfectly wobbly whisky and strawberry panna cotta to finish. All were perfectly cooked and seasoned and very memorable. The service was also friendly and very well-judged without rushing us. As someone who has eaten in many excellent restaurants across the world, it is always a delight to find such quality cooking on one's doorstep. 1812 really deserves to be a huge success.

A brilliant evening out with my friend to celebrate my 70th birthday (which is tomorrow). It was perfect, what more can I say. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Delicious afternoon tea in a relaxed atmosphere. Sandwiches weren’t finger sandwiches as expected, but were tasty all the same. Scones were delicious. We both took the top layer of cakes home as we were full by the time we got to the top! Polite and friendly staff.
